Busy People Need to Add Nutritional Supplements to Their Diet

by Frann Leach

Modern food processing removes much of the goodness in our food, and the way food is grown means that many of the nutrients which should have been present are missing even before the factories get their hands on it.

All the vitamins and minerals you need can be obtained from food, but only if you eat the right ones. Since many of us can't or won't eat certain things, a nutritional supplement is a useful addition.

If you have difficulty following the health guidelines, whether for lack of funds or for any other reason, it's helpful to add some supplements to your daily diet. You may hear scientists on the television or radio saying these are unnecessary if you have a properly balanced diet, but the fact is that very few of us do. Modern food processing removes much of the goodness in our food, and the way food is grown means that many of the nutrients which should have been present are missing even before the factories get their hands on it.

Consider using supplements

Unless you eat a really good balanced diet, it's almost certain you will be lacking in one or more of the nutrients you need, so taking a good one-a-day multivitamin and mineral tablet every day is an excellent idea. Check the label, and make sure it is one that contains selenium. This is a good indication that it's a good quality supplement, and selenium will help protect you against the big C, as well.

There are always new developments in nutritional science, and the recent interest in Vitamin D has garnered some very important information. Although it's still on sale as a vitamin, researchers believe it's much more than that, and that a regular intake of 1000IU a day protects against numerous diseases, such as heart disease, arthritis and multiple sclerosis, as well as sixteen different types of cancer. Take a look at the article on vitamin D on this site to find out more.
