Taung-bho-hmo (Burmese spiced mushrooms)

2 large onions
4 cloves garlic
2 strips lemon peel
500g mushrooms
4 tblsp oil
1 tsp turmeric
salt
1 tblsp lemon juice

Chop one of the onions, the garlic, and the lemon peel. Put into a blender and blend together, or chop very finely and mix together.

Clean and thickly slice mushrooms, discarding stems. Slice the other onion.

Heat oil and add turmeric, salt, mixed ingredients and the sliced onion. Cook for a few minutes, add mushrooms, stir and cook over a low heat until tender.

Sprinkle with lemon juice just before serving. Serve with boiled rice or a plain pilau.
